This is it!

I can’t believe this is our final blog for the semester! We have finally reached the end and I am relieved to have finished all my finals in my other classes. I will be officially done with the semester after I complete the timed essay. I enjoyed this class a lot minus the time consuming work. I underestimated this class coming in and thought it was going to be easy but overall I learned important tools to help better my writing. I remember trying to find my way through Blackboard and I kept getting lost. Now, I know how to use it for future online classes. I normally would prefer to be in a class setting learning face to face but only for certain subjects like math. I wouldn’t mind taking another online class because I see it as a way for me to fully understand my work. I don’t have to rely on the teacher as much to explain to me how to do a certain task and I enjoy working on my own time. Professor Gross did a great job explaining the assignments that I didn’t have trouble completing them and if I did have questions she was quick to answer them. When I met her in person I wish I took a regular class with her because of how clear she was to understand. You could tell how much teaching means to her with how helpful she was.
The blogs were the best part of the class. I like being able to free write and voice my opinion in a format that is my own. The EL book had entertaining essays which were different from the usual English textbooks teachers use and I loved Reading Lolita in Tehran, I’m glad I got the opportunity to read it I enjoyed the topics we wrote for our essays especially the research paper. I’m so uninspired with the topics English teachers assign nowadays and its always a drag to type 5 pages on something you don’t find interesting. Overall, I feel I improved as a writer and I’m happy we were able to share our papers with our classmates. It helped me overcome that fear thinking my writing wasn’t up to par as the rest but now I know in myself that I can become a better writer.

  1. Hey we got the same background for our blogs! lol. Yeah it’s a great feeling of pride and joy finally ending this semester. I learned a lot, and I feel that I got a lot out of this class. Although I wished I wasn’t so overwhelmed with my other classes -- I wished I had spent more time on this class to really get the most out of it. It’s a great class that really developed the way I think. I constantly question certain things in life. For example I analyze propaganda devices when I watch television or even read anything. Whenever I read I am constantly critically thinking about certain things, if there are arguments; whether they’re strong or weak. Overall, this class provided me really good sense of things around me in this world. It’s great to hear that you took an interest in this class; I enjoyed it as well. This class has taught me many things that I could carry on for the rest of my life. I also enjoyed some of the essays in the EL book, I plan on photocopying some of the interesting essays for my own personal source for future references. Martin Luther King, and the essays that inspired change was my favorites.

  2. I can’t believe we made it either, the end is finally here! I remember the first week, and like you I was completely lost in blackboard (haha). I was so confused with the format and I could never find anything, but now it’s like second nature to me. Like you said now I know how to use it incase I need it for future classes. Online classes can be very overwhelming sometimes, I remember just looking at all the assignment for the week and thinking “how am I ever going to do all this”. But I learned that if you space it out it’s not too bad. That’s funny that you say the blogs were the best part of the class, because I felt the same way. I loved being able to just write without any criteria, and express my opinions and views without being judged. I feel that the blogs helped me to form thoughts and put those thoughts into my writing, I always had difficulty with this until I took this class. Overall I had a good experience in this class, and it sounds like you did as well. Good luck in all your future endeavors, and have a fantastic summer!

  3. Yes! The end of the semester is here! You and I share some common thoughts. I also think that the blogs were the best part of the class. I feel like you just write how you feel and exactly how you want it without having to worry about the grammar involved or strict prompt. They were mostly out opinions and this helped the writing be a bit easier overall. I feel the same as you in the matter that I underestimated this class. Going into it I thought it would be a piece of cake! But I was soon to find out how wrong I was. First of all, I'm not even all that great with computers so I had to learn a couple new things. Next, I realized that since the class was online and we only had a couple essays, that they would count as most of our grade in this class. Overall, my writing skills have improved the same as yours but I think I am better off in a face to face class because this online class was very difficult to me. It was hard to adopt to a new way of doing things and constantly having to check my emails or blackboard. This was a great experience and I enjoyed it, but now it is time to go back to normal for me.

  4. I also loved the readings we did in this class. I did also notice that this class was not like any English class I had taken in the past. I did enjoy everything about the class.
I also liked being able to share our papers with our groups. At first I didn't want other people to read what I had written, but it was extremely helpful to hear what other people had to say about what I had written. I got a lot of feedback that I think helped me a lot.
This class gave me a lot more confidence in my writing. I am not afraid to write what or how I want to write now. At the beginning of the semester I was so hesitant and also overwhelmed by the first weeks assignments. I actually came into this class thinking it was going to be extremely hard, but It wasn't as hard as I thought it was, though it still was very challenging. The essays especially were my challenging and let's not forget the research paper. It was a great class to take and I liked the way the class was set up.
I wish you a great summer and good luck in your future goals.
